Dear Monroe Township School Community, Regarding the security incident that took place on Thursday, September 24, 2026, I recognize that these events may have caused worry for our parents, students, and staff, and that the timing of our notification may have exacerbated those concerns. This was certainly not our intent. We are currently reviewing our practices, but it is important to note that during an active security matter, district administration works in close coordination with law enforcement, and the release of information is determined by the specific nature of the situation as it unfolds. To clarify the situation, a police matter involving a juvenile occurred yesterday in the vicinity of Garwood Avenue and South Main Street. Due to concerning statements made by the individual prior to fleeing the scene, the Monroe Township Police Department (MTPD) contacted school district administration. We collectively decided to place the area schools into a "secure" status while MTPD conducted their search. During this time, the secure status restricted entry and exit for our buildings; however, students and staff were able to maintain their regular schedules and movement without interruption inside the schools. The Monroe Township Police Department managed incident command and control. In close collaboration with them, we determined that students could be released at their regular dismissal time without restriction. The timing of our communication was also coordinated with the police department to ensure that the information we provided was accurate and did not interfere with their ongoing operations. The safety and security of our students and staff remain my highest priority. Following any security event, our team conducts a thorough review to refine our protocols and strengthen our future response. While I am confident that our established procedures functioned as intended, I recognize that our families need to receive information more promptly, and we are committed to improving our communication timeline moving forward.
