  About the Classes at WMS
Williamstown Middle School offers a dynamic and engaging dance program, with two distinct course options designed to cater to different levels of interest and commitment. Whether you're a beginner looking to explore the world of dance or a more dedicated dancer seeking to refine your technique, there’s a class that’s perfect for you.

Exploratory Course

The Exploratory Dance course is ideal for students new to dance or those looking for a brief introduction. This class lasts for one marking period and provides a comprehensive overview of the basic elements of dance, including movement, rhythm, and expression. Students will have the opportunity to complete two creative projects.

While the focus is on exploration and creativity, students will not engage in more advanced techniques like ballet or perform in a concert during this course.

Semester Course

For those who want to take their dance experience to the next level, the Semester Dance course offers a more intensive and specialized curriculum. In this class, students will study a variety of dance styles, including ballet, jazz, contemporary, and hip hop. The focus is on developing technical skills, improving strength and flexibility, and learning proper dance techniques. Throughout the semester, students will also have the opportunity to perform in a formal dance concert, which serves as the major project and contributes to their final grade. Unlike the Exploratory Dance course, the Semester Dance class includes ballet, as well as performing, as a core component, offering a deeper dive into this foundational dance form.
