Fire Safety Up Close at Oak Knoll

Posted Date: 10/08/26 (09:00 AM)

A group of children wearing paper firefighter hats stand in line near a fire truck.

Oak Knoll students got an up-close look at fire safety Wednesday when the Williamstown Fire Company spent the day visiting with the entire school.

Each group started with a conversation about what to do in a fire emergency, including one message the firefighters wanted students to remember: do not be afraid of firefighters or their equipment. They are there to help.

Students then got a closer look at the fire truck, learned about some of the equipment inside and had the chance to walk through the truck themselves.

Fire Prevention Week gives our elementary students a chance to learn these lessons in a way that feels real and familiar. Meeting local firefighters, seeing the gear up close and asking questions can help our youngest learners feel more comfortable, more informed and better prepared if they ever find themselves in an emergency.

Oak Knoll also treated the firefighters to a pizza lunch as a thank-you for spending the day with students.

Thank you to the Williamstown Fire Company and to everyone helping bring these hands-on fire safety lessons to our elementary students this week.
