Mrs. Turella’s gym classes at Whitehall have been finding a few different ways to get moving lately.
During a cardiovascular drumming lesson, students traded traditional equipment for pool noodles, using them as drumsticks while following rhythms and movements around the gym. The activity kept students active while working on coordination, timing and endurance.
Then it was time to head up the climbing wall.
Students worked their way across the wall by deciding where to place their hands and feet, testing their strength and figuring out the next move as they went. For some, that also meant trying again when the first route did not quite work.
That variety is part of what makes PE valuable for our students. One lesson might be loud, fast and rhythmic. Another might require a little more patience and problem-solving. Both give students a chance to move, challenge themselves and discover something they can do that they may not have tried before.
There has been plenty of energy in the Whitehall gym this week.
